DEFEND OUR CHILDREN
Defend our Children aims to improve the Quality of Life, Health and Safety, Overall Experience, and Mental Stability of Children throughout their educational journey.
MISSION & HISTORY.
Defend our Children aims to improve the Quality of Life, Health and Safety, Overall Experience, and Mental Stability of Children throughout their educational journey. This includes, but is not limited to, giving away safe space desks, case study work with schools, addressing safety in the event of imminent dangers such as school shootings, improving school procedures, providing shelter for unexpected inclement weather, and discouraging bullying and sexual abuse.
We started as a Father, Todd, and Son, Donald, who became sick and tired of seeing school shootings on the news. Fathoming the horrible experience and lasting trauma the students, parents, and communities endure became unbearable.
On February 14th, 2018 we watched the Parkland shooting on the news killing 17 people. That is the moment Todd and Donald started the design on the Safe Space Desk to give students instant access to ballistic defense from a school shooting, sexual harassment, unpredicted tornados, and other threats of harm or injury. A few months later, on May 18th, 2019, the Santa Fe High School Shooting happened to kill 10 people. With no solution to saving children’s lives available, we continued to design and develop the Safe Space Desk and filed for a patent in September 2018. In June 2019, we applied and were granted nonprofit 501(c)(3) status for Defend our Children to combine with communities to conduct fundraising and give Safe Space Desks away to schools.
After several years of design, development, and finalizing the Safe Space Desk, we launched our national awareness campaign on February 14th, 2021. Over the next 30 days, our efforts went viral over the news, Facebook, Reddit, and other social media. Now, we need YOUR help with fundraising and working with local school districts to request Safe Space Desks in YOUR schools. The Safe Space Desks are still considered a “new” concept and will require parents throughout school systems to “champion” the efforts of getting school systems to approve Safe Space Desks for integration into their schools.
Defend our Children stands ready and prepared to continue fundraising, to work with school district champions for fundraising and integration, and ultimately start equipping schools with Safe Space Desks.
